Expertise: Ecosystem Ecology, Microbial Ecology

Research Interests: I am interested in how plant traits under genetic control affect both ecosystem processes and the soil micro-organisms that perform those processes. Specifically, I plan to explore how genetic-based changes in foliar chemistry along a cottonwood hybridization gradient influence rates of nitrification (the biological oxidation of ammonium to nitrate) and the community structure of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea in the soil.
