Expertise: Ecosystem Ecology

Research Interests: My research is broadly centered on the genetic interactions between species and the ecological and evolutionary consequences of these interactions for ecosystem processes. I focus on the interactions of dominant plant species, their associated herbivores, soil microbial communities and the linkages to soil carbon, phosphorus and nitrogen cycling. I study these plant-soil feedbacks in poplar, eucalypt, aspen and tulip poplar forests as well as old field ecosystems and sustainable agriculture. Together these studies have applied and theoretical implications for better understanding the effects of both species and genetic diversity to ecosystem services.
